Exclusively at the Global Green Destinations Day: Top Slovenian Chef - Ana Roš

24.05.2016

It is our pleasure to announce that Ana Roš, known as the Slovenian Chef will be a keynote speaker at the Global Green Destinations Day, on 28th September. In her speech she will reveal her story of success, which is a story of sustainability.

Ana Roš, chef and co-owner, of Hiša Franko, spent 16 years revolutionizing her country’s food, bringing international attention to Slovenia. This is mostly due to her participation in culinary events such as Cook it Raw, Identita Golose, Squisito and Gelinaz. Also, her upcoming participation in the Netflix Original show Chef’s Table, airing on the 27th of May will put Slovenia on the map as a culinary destination.

The story of Roš is a peculiar one. Before becoming a chef she was a former ski champion on the Slovenian team, fluent in five languages and educated in diplomacy. With her future being set on joining the diplomatic corps, her fate suddenly changed when her parents in law left the family hostelry and kitchen to her and her husband. Without any formal culinary experience, she began to learn on the job, relying on the produce form the Hiša Franko gardens and local producers.

Hiša Franko, located in Kobarid in the middle of Slovenia’s alpine Soča Valley and close to both the Italian and Austrian border, serves food widely influenced by these areas. All of the ingredients used by Roš come within walking distance from her restaurant. She calls her sustainable approach ”zero-kilometer approach”. She believes that it is the only way to preserve the local culture and products for the next generations.

With the combination of her zero kilometer approach, the focus of using organic produce and her upcoming star debut in Chef’s Table, Ana Roš has the potential to put Slovenia on the map as a culinary destination. Want to find out more? We are looking forward to see you at Ana’s keynote presentation.
