SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS FOR THE TOURISM INDUSTRY

We're excited to be hosting a panel discussion - Sustainability Standards for the Tourism Industry, on Tuesday, 27th September 2016, from 14.00 to 15.00.pm. The panel will be moderated by Richard Denman and will include the presentations by Soren Stober (Travelife), Milena Lukić (Green Key), Kristine Dorosko (EU Ecolabel), Blanka Kaker (Slovenian Institute of Quality and Metrology), Peter Zimmer (TourCert).

This panel will consider the role of standards and certification as an instrument for encouraging better sustainability practice amongst tourism businesses. The purpose and content of sustainability standards will be discussed, including information on the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria for the tourism industry. Five panellists representing a range of different standards and programmes will provide an insight from their practical experience. The panel will consider the extent to which clear sustainability outcomes arise from standards and certification, the main challenges faced by businesses in achieving compliance, and how to strengthen awareness and participation.
